PVs set for new sales milestone of 4 mn units in FY24

The passenger vehicle segment is expected to reach a new peak this fiscal year, selling over 4 million units, with SUVs driving the demand. Sales of passenger vehicles have increased from 2.5 million units a decade ago to 3.8 million units in the last fiscal year. This year, industry experts predict sales to reach 4.1 million units, with SUV sales projected to be around 1.9 million units. The share of hatchbacks and sedans in the sales mix has declined, while SUVs continue to be strong growth drivers. Some manufacturers have exited the PV segment, reducing the number of brands in the market.

If combined, CNG and electric car registrations in Mumbai under the "clean fuel category", they were up to 2% more than the "polluting" diesel cars for 2021-22 and 2022-23 and the trend continues during five months of this financial year as well.

US court allows M&M arm to keep producing, selling post-2020 version of Roxor

Mahindra & Mahindra on Thursday said a US court has allowed its subsidiary to keep producing and selling the post-2020 version of its off-road vehicle Roxor in the American market. The Eastern District Court of Michigan on July 19, 2023, issued its opinion and order on Fiat Chrysler Automobile's (FCA's) renewed motion to enjoin the Post-2020 Roxor and based on its analysis declined to apply the safe distance rule to this case as sought by FCA, Mahindra & Mahindra said in a regulatory filing.

Ashok Leyland bags orders worth INR 800 cr from Indian Army

Ashok Leyland has secured INR 800 crore worth of orders from the Indian Army, which include the procurement of specialist vehicles FAT 4x4 and GTV 6x6 for towing light and medium guns. The vehicles are scheduled to be delivered over the next 12 months. According to Amandeep Singh, President for Defence Business at Ashok Leyland, the mobility platforms, ranging from 4x4, 6x6, 8x8, 10x10 & 12x12 are indigenously developed and manufactured by Ashok Leyland and that contributed significantly towards import substitution.

BEST fleet shrinks to 3.1K; transport activists want it doubled

The BEST fleet is fast depleting. From over 3,600 buses around a year ago, it has gone down by nearly 500 to around 3,100. Transport activists on Tuesday demanded that BEST should double the fleet to 6,000 buses to cater to demand from lakhs of daily commuters across Mumbai.

No parking under park, Juhu to get multi-utility with space for 800 cars

The proposed underground parking plan under Pushpa Narsee Park in Juhu has been scrapped following opposition from local residents, according to BJP MLA, Ameet Satam. The MLA will now replace the proposal with a multi-utility complex, featuring an underground parking lot on a plot of land that is designated as a municipal garage. The new facility will include a gymnasium, banquet hall, and auditorium. Samarth Das, an urban designer and architect, praised Satam for the participatory approach he adopted in creating the new plan.
