Commuters may soon have to pay more for cab rides in Pune

The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO), in consultation with cab associations and other stakeholders, will send a proposal on Tuesday to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to fix the fare of air-conditioned cabs in both cities to INR 39 for the first 1.5km and INR 26 for every subsequent km of travel. The RTA is headed by the district collector.

300 bus shelters to come up in Pune by August next year

“Teams are moving from place to place, checking the spots which really need bus shelters. Based on the results, tenders for setting up more shelters will be floated in the next couple of months. The tender requirement for this plan will be similar to the one earlier so that it finds takers,” the official said. “For over three years, we are waiting for bus shelters and despite all claims, the PMPML has failed to deliver on its promise. Until the new shelters start coming up, we don’t want to expect much from the transport body,” Haider Shaikh, a resident of Camp, said.

MSRTC increases buses to Mumbai, but not many takers

MSRTC officials said they were not seeing a lot of Mumbai-bound travellers. "The frequency of Mumbai-bound buses has been increased, but there are less passengers now. People are unwilling to travel because of rainfall. Only those with urgent travel needs are opting to travel," Kailas Patil, the divisional controller, Pune MSRTC, told TOI.
