Chinese firm BYD plans to cover 90% of EV market in India this year

BYD, a Chinese EV manufacturer, aims to dominate 90% of India's EV market by year-end, focusing on the INR 30 lakh-plus segment. They launched the SEAL sedan and are seeking ARAI homologation for their Atto 3 SUV to lift import restrictions. Despite a setback with plans for a manufacturing plant, BYD plans to comply with regulations and expand based on market demand.

Incentive scheme for three-wheeler EVs

Under the scheme, the owners of new and retrofitted electric vehicles will be provided an incentive of INR 30,000 per vehicle. “To encourage swift uptake, the first 1,000 applications post-retrofitment will be prioritized. About 750 slots have been earmarked for three-wheelers catering to passenger transport and 250 slots for urban freight three-wheelers,” an official said.

5G tech is an enabler, we are open to partner in this area: ARAI Director Dr Reji Mathai

"We are looking into 5G very seriously. Currently, ARAI is assessing what features could be provided in vehicles with this technology and looking into partnerships in this area. We are trying to evaluate and submit it to the government for policy development," Dr Mathai said at the 4th edition of ETAuto Connected Vehicle Summit in New Delhi.

Govt forms panel to examine demands for inclusion of more components in Auto PLI: Minister

"A committee has been constituted to examine demands from stakeholders to include more (automotive) components in the scope of the PLI scheme as technology keeps evolving. It will be chaired by an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries and have 11 members including those from testing agencies like ARAI and the auto industry," the heavy industries minister told PTI.

Zen Mobility launches cargo E3W Micro Pod

The Zen Micro Pod will be available in two variants - the R5x and R10x. With a maximum payload of 150 kg, the Zen Micro Pod surpasses conventional 3-wheelers’ load carrying capacity by 2.5 times. The vehicle operates at a minimal running cost, consuming only 4 units of electricity with a charging time of approx. 1.5 - 2 hrs, the company said.

Maruti Suzuki reveals ARAI-certified mileage of Jimny

The 1.5-liter, normally aspirated K15B petrol engine will power the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, according to sources. Both a four-speed automatic and a five-speed manual transmission are available for the SUV. When compared to the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, the Jimny falls short by 3.2 km/l, getting 19.8 km/l for the AT type and 20.15 km/l for the manual gearbox version.

Eka, GoEgo tie-up for bus charging network

Eka and goEgo added that the agreement will entail goEgo setting up 30kW, 60kW, and 120kW chargers for Eka’s buses. The partners added that the chargers are certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), and conforms to the global Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) certification standards as well.
