Baleno emerged as the leader, with 20% year-on-year sales growth totaling 19,630 units. Tata Motors' Punch claimed the second position, recording an impressive 50% year-on-year increase with 17,978 units.
Tata Nexon clinched the top position with 15,284 units, a 27% y-o-y increase, showcasing its widespread popularity among consumers. Punch from Tata Motors took the third spot with 13,787 units, a 30% y-o-y increase. Maruti Suzuki Dzire was at the second spot with 14,012 units, a 17% increase.
The price increase is to offset the residual impact of the past input costs, and will be applicable across the entire range of commercial vehicles.

Operating leverage drove improvement in profits by 2.2x in Auto, 58% in MMFSL, and 21% in Farm. This coupled with capital allocation actions and monetisation resulted in significant step up in the Group’s profitability, the company said.
The company also clocked the highest ever annual sales of its SUVs at 356,961 units, with a growth of 60%. In the Passenger Vehicle segment (which includes UVs, Cars and Vans), the company sold 35,997 units (growth of 30%) in March 2023 and recorded an annual sale of 359,253 vehicles (growth of 59%).

The effort will mark yet another attempt by the company to break into the Indian market in a significant way. The carmaker’s earlier efforts to boost its presence in India have often been bruising experiences. An alliance with Suzuki Motor Corp. ended in a fierce legal dispute before a single car was built and talks over teaming up with Jaguar-maker Tata Motors didn’t go anywhere.
With a mix of ICE vehicles-turned EVs and ground up EVs, the OEM wants to more than make up for the lost opportunities. Electrified versions of XUV300 and KUV 100 are set to be among the first set of models. The strategy for a new start in for-wheeler electric vehicles is expected to be announced in the UK on August 15, 2022.
