Initial reports indicate there were no casualties. The fire, workers said, have damaged the assembly line and could impact supplies to Maruti Suzuki.
"Whatever losses we had we will make up in the next few months as our production engineers are working on how to increase the production," MSIL Executive Director R S Kalsi said.
While sales in the utility vehicle category went up by 75.5 per cent to 9,708 units, volumes in passenger car space fell by 16.3 per cent to 72,551 units.
"Further, the company is working on fast-track basis to re-build the Manesar facility so as to commence production in phased manner," the company had said on Saturday.
The company has reinstated full supplies to Maruti from its other plants at Noida, Pune and Chennai, Subros Ltd said in a regulatory filing.
The problem is our overall capacity. We are running to absolutely full capacity and more than full capacity. If I increase more in the entry level segment, I will have to reduce something in the upper segments including the Baleno and the Brezza. We have to find a way of balancing all these segments within the capacity available.
Maruti produces around 5,000 units a day from its two plants at Gurgaon and Manesar, which together have an annually capacity of rolling out 15 lakh units.
“This will enable the closure period to be utilized for arranging supply of components, both from Subros Limited as well as from other sources, and result in higher production volumes after the closure,” the company said in a statement.
The suspension in production will further increase the waiting period on the popular models such as Vitara Brezza and Baleno which already have long 6-8 months of waiting period.
While it has not set a time line for restarting operations at the Manesar facility that was destroyed in a fire on Sunday, the company said it is working "expeditiously" to resume production at the fire-wrecked plant.
This waiting period may increase by a few more days as the production of Maruti Suzuki has been impacted due to fire at Subros' Manesar Facility. Subros is the major supplier for the air-conditioned system for all Maruti models.
The decision comes after its major air-conditioners Subros Limited’s Manesar plant was gutted in massive fire on Sunday. The auto-component maker used to supply 60 percent MSIL’s total air-conditioner consumption.
Reacting to the development, the scrip plummeted 16.75 per cent to hit a low of Rs 77.50 on the BSE. The stock has slumped 20 per cent in the year so far.
