Ashok Leyland Nissan Vehicles Limited was established in the year 2008. The company has its headquarters in Chennai. The company manufactures light commercial vehicles. Nissan agreed to sell to Ashok Leyland all of their shares in three joint venture companies. These joint ventures focus on the development of technology and manufacturing of powertrains and vehicles. The joint ventures are wholly owned by Ashok Leyland subsidiaries. The new phase of the business interaction has already begin. They will continue to build Dost and Partner light commercial vehicles which are based on Nissan's designs, engineering and technology. Servicing and availability of parts would be taken care by a technical support arrangement. Also the two companies have made a deal to procure made-in-India parts to Nissan. The companies have invested substantially in manufacturing, research & development and the sales network of the country. They are planning on becoming a major player in the Indian Market. Indian commercial vehicle customers will continue to benefit from Nissan's engineering, with servicing and parts availability under the licensing agreement with Ashok Leyland. The three joint ventures that were formed are: Ashok Leyland Nissan Vehicles Ltd which is a vehicle joint venture, Nissan Ashok Leyland Technologies Ltd which is a technology partnership and Nissan Ashok Leyland Powertrain Ltd which is a power train alliance. The companies have invested around Rs 1,000 crore in equity in all these ventures.
