New Jersey senators seek to delay New York City congestion pricing plan

Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker urged U.S. Transportation (USDOT) Secretary Pete Buttigieg not to grant final approval to environmental reviews needed to implement the congestion pricing plan after his department gave a key approval on May 5. Menendez said separately that he is introducing legislation this week that would cut 50% of New York state federal highway grant funding if the plan moves ahead.

1 in 4 cars in India to be an electric by 2030: VW

The company plans to introduce an India-assembled version of its ID.4 electric car over the next one year, following which it will launch a highly localised electric car that will be targeted at the mass market, VW country brand head Ashish Gupta told TOI. "We expect the Indian market to grow at a CAGR of 5-6% over this decade, and close 2030 with annual sales between 5 million and 5.6 million. Electrics will be 25-30% of this, and the volumes can be anywhere between 1.5 million and 1.8 million units," Gupta said.

Tesla's April sales of China-made EVs down 14.7% from March

The figure was however a huge jump from a year earlier, when the city of Shanghai - where Tesla has a factory - was in COVID-19 lockdown. In April last year, the company delivered only 1,512 China-made Model 3 and Model Y cars in the world's largest auto market.

Skoda Auto India introduces 2023 Kodiaq at a starting price of INR 37.99 lakh

The Kodiaq nameplate was first introduced in India in 2017, and globally, the Kodiaq was Skoda Auto’s first full-size SUV with the capacity to seat 7. Available in India as a parts and components vehicle under limited numbers so far, the 2023 Kodiaq will now see allotments of 750 cars every quarter, the company said.

Toyota Kirloskar plans to roll out affordable green models

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) plans to bring more clean technology models - hybrids, flex fuel, hydrogen to name a few, at affordable price points over the next three to five years as part of its plan to reduce dependence on fossil fuel-powered vehicles. Localisation at a rapid pace including sourcing locally made parts and raw materials, will be key to the plan, said the company's top officials.
