Operating leverage drove improvement in profits by 2.2x in Auto, 58% in MMFSL, and 21% in Farm. This coupled with capital allocation actions and monetisation resulted in significant step up in the Group’s profitability, the company said.
The company also clocked the highest ever annual sales of its SUVs at 356,961 units, with a growth of 60%. In the Passenger Vehicle segment (which includes UVs, Cars and Vans), the company sold 35,997 units (growth of 30%) in March 2023 and recorded an annual sale of 359,253 vehicles (growth of 59%).
The SUV, while maintaining its all-terrain capabilities, also offers a more comfortable and plusher ride, making it a lifestyle SUV that is perfect for city and highway driving as well. It offers customers the best of both worlds - the thrill of adventure and the modern dynamics of an SUV, the company said.
The effort will mark yet another attempt by the company to break into the Indian market in a significant way. The carmaker’s earlier efforts to boost its presence in India have often been bruising experiences. An alliance with Suzuki Motor Corp. ended in a fierce legal dispute before a single car was built and talks over teaming up with Jaguar-maker Tata Motors didn’t go anywhere.
With a mix of ICE vehicles-turned EVs and ground up EVs, the OEM wants to more than make up for the lost opportunities. Electrified versions of XUV300 and KUV 100 are set to be among the first set of models. The strategy for a new start in for-wheeler electric vehicles is expected to be announced in the UK on August 15, 2022.
“The new electric XUV300 will be launched in Q1 of the calendar year 2023. It will be a good sized product, being 4.2 meter in length,” said Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director, M&M on Monday at a virtual press conference to announce the Q4 FY22 financial results.

The Mahindra SCV portfolio comprises models ranging from 0.7 tonne to 1.7 tonne payload offered in diesel, gasoline, and CNG fuel options. They include Jeeto, Supro, Bolero Pik-up and Bolero Maxitruck Plus, the company said.
The Mileage Guarantee, 'Get More Mileage or Give the Truck Back', was first offered on Balzo trucks in 2016.
Launching the new KUV 100 NXT (at Rs 4.39 lakh to 7.33 lakh), Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra and Mahindra said the company has placed a strong bet on electrification and plans to electrify all the SUVs and crossovers.
EESL said all 10,000 e-cars would be procured in two phases with 500 to be procured in phase-I and 9,500 vehicles to be ordered post phase-I deliveries.
EESL had in August floated a global tender for 10,000 e-vehicles to replace five lakh petrol and diesel cars used by the government over three to four years.
M&M, which already has two electric cars e2o and electric sedan Verito, was also in the Energy Efficiency Services bidding race
Automobile companies and dealers said that the sales have declined mainly due to a slow movement of sales, lack of new model launches and subdued consumer sentiment post demonetization and the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Tata Motors won the tender and will now supply the Electric Vehicles (EVs) in two phases – first 500 e-cars will be supplied to EESL in November 2017 and the rest 9,500 EVs will be delivered in the second phase, said the statement from the ministry.
