Mercedes Benz India Pvt Limited was established in the year 1994 and has its headquarters in Pune. The company designs, manufactures, imports, and sells passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and auto components. The company also provides cars with petrol and diesel engines, buses, parts and accessories, as well as apparel and accessories. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the German Daimler AG. Mercedes-Benz India pioneered the luxury car market in India. It was recognized as India’s Most Admired Company in a survey by Fortune India magazine in 2013. Mercedes-Benz India pioneered the luxury car market in India. The company's plant at Maharashtra is spread across 100 acres and was set up in the year 2009. They are among the fastest green-field operations ever to be created and is rated as one of the top-most CKD plants of Mercedes-Benz globally. The company also has plants in Bangalore ad Pune. Mercedes-Benz India has built brand awareness through a series of consumer-centric engagement events in India. These include Mercedes Trophy and Drive Events like AMG Driving Academy and Luxe Drive. Mercedes-Benz established its largest research & development center outside Germany with the launch of its Bangalore R&D center in 1996. MBRDI with its location in Bangalore and Pune shows Daimler’s strong commitment to India as a location for production, R&D and for IT.  Currently 2,000 engineers and IT-specialists are employed by the company. Presently it has the widest network reach for any luxury car maker in India: in 40 cities with 83 outlets. The company plans to launch 12 models and 10 new outlets in 2016.
