Mercedez Benz research wing expands Bengaluru presence

4.2 million car sales may blast their way to record

Around 375,000-380,000 cars, sedans and utility vehicles are expected to be sold in India in March, up from 336,000 units a year earlier, making it the 15th consecutive month that PV sales have breached previous monthly records. For the first time, sport-utility vehicles are set to capture more than half of the passenger vehicle market in a year underscoring their growing popularity.

Mayer, who is on his first visit to India after assuming charge of international sales at the headquarters, said he was "pleasantly surprised" at the changes here. "The growth is impressive. People have the spending power. And it is not just smaller, cheaper cars that people are buying but the bigger and premium vehicles. Infrastructure has improved. People are taking more road trips. There is another use case today for buying more premium vehicles to travel comfortably with families," Mayer said.

India's power consumption in February 2024 grew by over 8%, reaching 127.79 BU. The growth rate was slightly higher. Peak power demand met rose to 222 GW from 209.76 GW. Power consumption increased due to prolonged cold wave and use of heating equipment. Experts expect steady growth due to economic activities and early onset of summers in March.
