SML Isuzu Limited was initially formed as Swaraj Mazda Ltd, but has now been changed to SML Isuzu Limited in the year 2011. The company was established in the year 1983 and is situated in Chandigarh, India. The company started its commercial operations in 1986. It manufactures and supplies light and medium and commercial vehicles & related parts in India. The company has an experience of more than twenty five years. The company is also the first to manufacture and supply fully built buses, ambulances and customized vehicles. The company Sumitomo Corporation, Japan and Isuzu Motors, Japan holds 44% and 15% shareholdings respectively in the company. The company not only produces trucks, bus chassis but also provides special application vehicles such as ambulances, dumper placers, troop carriers, prison vans, recovery vans, 4x4 trucks, water tanker trucks, refrigerated vans and recovery vans. The company also offers their products through various dealers. The company launched its Xm Series Trucks and Buses recently. The company was initiated by Swaraj Vehicles Limited to manufacture light commercial vehicles. The government initiated the project to save the fuel consumption in the economy. The project aimed at building a new culture and value system in the organization. The company interacted with a lot of companies like Paugeot and Renault of France, Volkswagen and Man of Germany, Leyland of UK and Isuju Duihatsu and Mazda of Japan in search for high technology. While they were evaluating the technologies of these companies, the criteria that they set to evaluate was to select a vehicle powered by a four cylinder diesel engine that was capable of providing maximum pay-load capacity that suits the local conditions and are fuel efficient.
