UPDATED: Most recalled vehicles in India

Every year Indian automobile industry not only welcomes new vehicle launches. It also witnesses different product issues and product recalls.

Take a look at the ten most recalled vehicles in Indian auto industry. The recalls mentioned here fall between the periods of August 2012 – till date.
Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda Cars India's five seater mid size sedan City is not only one of the most selling car in the country, but also the most recalled vehicle.

A total of 1,89,705 units of Honda's highest selling car were recalled.

In June 2013, 42,672 units of City were recalled for malfunctioning of driver side power window switch.

Recently, in September 2015, Honda Cars India announced India's biggest ever recall of 2,23,578 vehicles.

The worst affected was City with 1,43,154 units recalled for airbag inflators.

During December 2015, 64,428 units of diesel variants of Honda City manufactured from December 2013 to July 2015 were recalled to voluntary replace the Fuel Return Pipe.

Recently, in February 2016, 49,572 units of the car were recalled to repair driver side airbag inflators. The effected models were manufactured between January 2012 - June 2013.

In July 2016, 1,37,270 units of City were recalled to replace defective Takata airbags.
American automaker Ford India's Figo has been recalled twice. In August 2012, certain units were recalled (exact number could not be deciphered) for crack in Rear Twist Beam (RTB) and for oil leak in the power steering hose system.

This recall was extended in September 2013. With respect to RTB, 1,09,469 units and for hose 30,681 units of Figo were recalled.

Recently, in April 2016, the company recalled 42,300 units of Figo along with Figo Aspire to rectify a software glitch in the functioning of airbags. It also said about half of these recalled models belongs to Figo.
In July 2013, the Detroit based General Motors recalled 1,14,000 units of its utility vehicle Tavera (BS-III, BS-IV) to address emissions and specifications issues.
In December 2015, General Motors India announced a recall of 1,01,597 units of Chevrolet Beat diesel hatchback.

The car maker explained that the recall will enable them to inspect and if necessary replace clutch pedal lever, which is susceptible to cracking on continuous use.

The batch pertains to Beat diesel produced between December 2010 and July 2014.
Utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra has recalled a total of 84,695 units of W6 and W8 variants of XUV500.

In March 2013, 24,695 units were recalled for oil seepage, and another 60,000 in February 2015 for upgradation of the side curtain airbag software.

The company recently launched the face-lifted version of this SUV; added another variant W10 to it.
In May 2016, Maruti Suzuki India recalled 75,419 Baleno cars (petrol and diesel), manufactured between August 3, 2015 and May 17, 2016 to upgrade the airbag controller software. The Baleno cars covered in the recall include 17,231 units of exports.
Maruti Suzuki India's compact sedan Swift Dzire which always remain in the top five selling passenger vehicles list, is the sixth most recalled vehicle in India.

In November 2013, 581 units of Dzire were recalled for defective steering column.

The highest number of the car (42,481 units) was recalled in April 2014 for replacing fuel filler neck.

Another 12,486 Dzires were recalled in September 2014.

In July 2014, the car attained 10 lakh cumulative sales mark.

In May 2016, 1,961 DZire Diesel cars (only AGS variant) have been recalled to attended to for inspection and replacement of a faulty fuel filter.
In July 2016, Suzuki Motorcycle India recalled 54,740 units of the New Access 125 scooters manufactured between March 8 and June 22, 2016 to inspect and replace the rear axle shaft as a precautionary measure.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor's highest selling utility vehicle Innova is also the company's most recalled vehicle in India.

It has been recalled once, in the concerned period, in April 2014 for fault in cable mounted in the steering wheel.
Here, comes the second vehicle to be recalled by Ford in India - SUV EcoSport. EcoSport, which bagged the title of most exported SUV in first half of FY16, has been recalled thrice by the company.

It recalled 972 EcoSports soon after the launch in mid-2013 to relocate the glow plug module and 20,700 units in December last year to fix problems with the front airbag and fuel line.

Recently in November 2015, nearly 16,500 units were recalled to fix a potentially faulty part of the rear suspension unit that the company said could increase the risk of accidents.
Another one from Ford; this time its Fiesta Classic. Fiesta Classic has been recalled along with Ford Figo twice in August 2012 and September 2013.

In August 2012, Ford India recalled a total of 1,28,655 units. Individual number of Ford Fiesta Classic could not be known.

In September 2013, 25,871 Fiesta Classics were recalled.
In December 2015, 25,782 units of diesel variants of Honda Mobilio manufactured from June 2014 to July 2015 were recalled to voluntary replace the Fuel Return Pipe of these vehicles.
After XUV500, Scorpio is the second product by homegrown automobile manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra to feature in the list of 10 most recalled vehicles in India.

In December 2013, 985 units of the EX variant of Scorpio was recalled for repairing a pressure regulating valve.

In July 2014, 23,519 units of the same variant of the SUV was recalled for the same defect.

Scorpio is the first SUV from Mahindra built for the global market. the company recently launched its automatic variant.
In July 2016, Honda Cars India recalled 22,483 units of Accord voluntarily replace Takata passenger front airbag inflators. The affected models were between the manufacturing period of 2003-2011.
Nissan Motor India's mid size sedan Sunny has been recalled twice.

In May 2013, 15,902 units were recalled for replacing seal of primary and/or secondary circuit of brake master cylinder.

In June 2015, 5,500 Sunnys were recalled for rectifying engine switch and airbags.
In May 2016, Maruti Suzuki India recalled as many as 20,427 units of its premium crossover model S-Cross for possible replacement of a faulty brake part. The company even announced a 'free service campaign' to rectify the problem.
