With fuel prices rising higher than ever, car manufacturers are now continuously trying to improve the fuel efficiency of their cars. SUVs were once perceived to be the least fuel efficient of all that modes of travel on road. However, these sports utility vehicles will make you think otherwise. Here are 15 of the most fuel efficient SUV currently available in the our market. Does your car make it to the list?
Launched last month, Vitara Brezza has run away with the crown for being the most fuel efficient SUV in the country. Maruti Suzuki claims that the UV can deliver 24.3 km to a litre. This makes it a winner by a decent margin.
This is one of the highest selling SUVs in India. With an option of a 1 litre Eco Boost engine, EcoSport delivers 22.67 kmpl. The most efficient SUV in the country not too long back, it will now have to be content with second spot
Hyundai Creta has is among thehighest selling SUVs in India ever since its launch in July. Launched with two diesel variants, 1.4l and 1.6l, and also a 1.6l petrol variant. The 1.4l diesel variant has helped the car become the third most fuel efficient SUV with a claimed efficiency of 21.3 kmpl.
Despite being powered by a larger 1.6 litre engine, producing 110ps and 248Nm torque, the Nissan Terrano is right up there in fuel efficiency. The Japanese car maker claims Terrano can deliver 20.45 km to a litre.
Renault Duster started it all in India in the compact SUV segment. Renault Duster is another top candidate in our list coming with a 1.5 litre engine which produces 85 PS and goes 19.87 kmpl.
Mahindra TUV300, which has a 1.5 litre diesel heart, has a fuel efficieny of 18.4 kmpl.
This is where the surprises start springing for many. The BMW X3 boasts of a 2L engine which gives a claimed mileage of 18.3 KM/L while producing 192 PS. With these figures, BMW X3 seems to manage a balance between performance and economy

The smallest SUV from Mercedes-Benz and a close rival to Audi Q3, BMW X1, GLA class 200 cdi comes with a 2.1 litre engine which produces a healthy 135.96 PS and 300Nm torque. With a fuel efficiency of 17.9 kmpl, it sure makes a strong case for itself.
