Auto Expo 2016: Vehicles that made everyone go crazy

On the first day of the Expo, Maruti Suzuki broke the cover from Vitara Brezza.

First introduced at the 2012 edition of the Auto Expo in the form of the YBA concept, the Vitara Brezza is Maruti Suzuki's first attempt at developing a compact SUV.

The sub-4 metre car will come in a diesel form. It will be launched with 1.3-litre unit sourced from Fiat that cranks up 90PS and 200Nm. The 200 DDIS engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The car will be sold via Maruti's premium sub-brand Nexa. The car will lock horns with the likes of the Ford Ecosport and the Mahindra TUV at a base price of Rs 6-8 lakh.
On the second day of the expo, covers were lifted from Maruti's all new hatchback Ignis.

The Ignis was first showcased in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show last year where it was called the iM-4. Maruti Suzuki has developed the Ignis keeping in mind the rapidly growing mini-SUV segment.

The all new Ignis is set to get two different engine options.

While it may get the 1.2-litre petrol mill that makes 84.3PS and 115Nm of torque, it could also come with the Fiat sourced 1.3-litre 4-cylinder diesel mill that makes 90PS and 190Nm. Both these engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
It was unveiled with both petrol and diesel engines.

The new Chevrolet Spin will go up against the likes of the Renault Lodgy, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Honda Mobilio. Chevrolet also has the Enjoy MPV which will continue to be sold alongside the Spin.

The Spin is larger than the Enjoy and will comfortably sit up to 7 people. The new Spin is 4360 mm in length, 1735 mm in width and 1656 mm in height.

In terms of engines the Chevrolet Spin MPV will get a 1.4-litre petrol mill that makes 104PS of peak power and 131Nm of peak torque along with a diesel 1.3-litre engine that makes 90PS of peak power.
This 4-door notchback will be launched in 2017.

The new model headlines Chevrolet's plan to increase its presence on Indian roads by tackling the fiercely competitive A-segment.

The car will come with state of the art connectivity and technology including Apple Car Play, Android Auto and Chevrolet's latest MyLink infotainment system.
It is a soft-roader concept.

Hyundai Motor India unveiled its vision for the future of urban mobility with the world showcase of the HND-14, 'Carlino’.

The compact utility vehicle concept presents a multi-functional solution for the next generation of car buyers.

The HND-14, 'Carlino’ is the latest in a succession of concepts from the Hyundai Design Center in Namyang, South Korea.

At less than four meters in length, each item of the car can be swapped in or out.

It comes with a push start button providing ease of use, in addition to electric folding side mirrors, six air bags and Hill Start Assist Control.

Another unique feature is the 3D honeycomb blocks, designed to provide near-silent running on highways.
Tata Motors-owned JLR launched the all-new Jaguar XE sports saloon priced at Rs 39.9 lakh and Rs 46.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The new Jaguar XE sports saloon will be assembled in India as part of the company's move to increase localisation.

German luxury carmaker Audi has launched its new R8 V10 Plus; priced at Rs 2.47 crore (ex showroom Mumbai & New Delhi).

It accelerates from 0-100 in 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 330 km/h, making it the fastest ever Audi.
The new Nissan X-Trail Hybrid will come to India as the market's first ever full hybrid SUV, and brings Nissan's latest hybrid vehicle technology to India for the first time.

It will be introduced before the end of the 2016 financial year.

Honda Jazz Racing Concept is a study model which has been prepared by the R&D team in India – HGID and aims to bring the racing DNA of Honda closer to the general public.
With a line-up of three SUVs – Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (Left), Jeep Grand Cherokee and the high-performance Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT (Right) – Jeep brand sales in India will start in mid-2016, a year that also marks the brand’s 75th anniversary.

Renault India unveiled the all new Duster range at the Auto Expo 2016.

The New Duster range includes 6 speed Easy – R Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).

The New Duster is powered by K9K 1.5L engine, and has 210mm of ground clearance. This 5-seater comes with 475 litres of boot space that can be extended to 1636 litres.

The new Duster will also come with an exciting new colour – Cayenne Orange.
Renault demonstrated its ambition to keep building on the success of the KWID, by showcasing the KWID 1.0 Litre SCe. It has all new 1.0 litre DOHC Smart Control efficiency Engine, and the 4 valves per cylinder of the Double Over Head Camshaft layout ensures low pressure drop and super-efficient valve lift for a higher air filling.
Renault KWID Racer belongs to an entirely different category of car and conjures up the world of racing, with 18-inch alloy wheels, low-profile tyres, honed aerodynamics, bucket seats and a roll cage.

It boasts of a sporty metallic blue finish. The C-shaped LED lighting signature and the high-tech treatment of the lights signal that the KWID Racer is clearly in tune with Renault’s new design strategy.

The inside of the car features materials like Alcantara, aluminium and carbon. The Titane Black trim is emphasised by touches of anodised red that is suggestive of the world of motor racing.

With its high ground clearance, wide track, short overhangs and the specially designed pattern of its tyres, this car is built for adventure off the beaten track.

The wheel arch extensions are highlighted in electric blue. The special protective housings of the car’s lights heighten its all-terrain feel.

Volkswagen, Europe’s leading car manufacturer, unveiled the Polo GTI at the 13th edition of the Delhi Auto Expo.

The Polo GTI is truly India’s hottest hatchback, equipped with a 1.8 TSI engine mated with a 7 – speed DSG gear box.

Under the hood of the Polo GTI is Volkswagen’s celebrated and established TSI engine technology which combines direct gasoline injection with turbocharging and produces a blistering 141 KW (192 PS) of raw power.

In accordance with Volkswagen’s global focus on electric vehicles, the Passat GTE is a plug-in hybrid powered by an electric motor and a TSI engine.

The Passat GTE comes with a Petrol- Electric Hybrid power train mated with a 6-speed DSG gear box and has a combined power (engine + electric motor) output of approximately 218 PS.

The 1.4-litre TSI engine develops a power of 115 kW / 156 PS; the electric motor produces 85 kW / 115 PS, while the maximum combined torque is 400 Nm.

The Volkswagen Passat’s engine will be capable of delivering EU 6 Emissions norms.
Taking centre-stage at the Volkswagen pavilion was the Ameo, which made its global debut at the Delhi Motor Show.

The new compact sedan has been designed specifically for the Indian market, and is expected to be a game changer for Volkswagen.

It will be available with two fuel options - 1.2L 3-cylinder MPI and 1.5L 4-cylinder TDI engine.
