Bajaj V unveiled: Will it prove its mettle?

Not often do you see an automotive product gain fans and admiration even before it has been launched. Bajaj has managed to do just that with its new brand 'V'.

Its claim to fame: Bajaj V uses metal from India's first aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. And that is where it gets name from.

The motorcycle will also come with 55/60W trapezoidal headlamp which the company claims is 60 percent brighter than other bikes in the segment.

The production of the bike will commence on February 5 with initial capacity of 20,000 units a month. The motorcycle will go on sale from March. It is expected that the bike will be priced between Rs 60,000 and Rs 70,000.

The motorcycle will be powered by a 150cc DTS-i engine which will deliver maximum torque of 13 Nm at 5500 RPM, and a peak power of 12 PS power at 7500 rpm.

Bajaj V will have front 240 dia front disc brakes and 130 dia drum brakes at the rear. 'V' will come with large 33 dia front fork and rear shock absorbers which the company claims is the largest in its class

Bajaj V has an nice looking tail light which is surrounded by chrome plating. Though, does it have a little Suzuki Intruder-ish look?

Also notice the cowl atop the pillion seat. This can be easily removed as and when it is required.

The bike will sit between Bajaj's Discover and Pulsar range of motorcycles. Like we V15 with 150cc engine, we do expect V brand to have more bikes with different engine displacements in the future

The Bajaj V will have an 18 inch the front tyre and a 16 inch tyre at the rear

The bike will be available in two colours - Ebony black and Pearl white

Bajaj said that it expects V will do to commuter segment what Pulsar did to the sports motorcycle segment.
