Cars that are signing off from Indian market

At the time of its launch in October 2013, V Sumantran, Vice Chairman, Ashok Leyland believed that it "will change the dynamics of Indian MPVs" and will "cater to a wider customer base and range of transportation needs". However, within 20 months in May 2015 Stile was discontinued owning to poor demands.

The Japanese carmaker's premium compact crossover first landed in India in 2004. X-trail SUV was competing with SUVs like Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero and Honda CRV. In January 2015, Nissan only had seven units of X Trail. It arrived as a CBU (completely built unit) throughout its 10 years in the country, before it was finally discontinued in 2014. X-Trail was offered with a 2.0-litre diesel motor with 150bhp and 320 horses, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

Another Nissan CBU and the company's third offering in the country, the 370Z landed on Indian shores in 2010 and well, did not last long enough.

This sedan which stood in straight line of competition with Honda Accord, silently exited from India in January 2015. After X Trail and 370Z, this is the third car to be phased out by the Japanese carmaker.

In India, it was launched in 1999 as the Daewoo Matiz. In 2007, the name changed to Chevrolet Spark. The company managed to sell over 1,65,000 units in seven years, that is after taking over from Daewoo. Last Spark rolled out in December 2014, marking the end of an era, of first generation entry level cars in India.

Launched in November 2008, the car was ousted to make way for Maruti Celerio. Powered by Suzuki's new K-series engine, K10B, the 998cc petrol motor offered a maximum power of 67bhp and a maximum torque of 90Nm.

"The Estilo was originally launched as the Zen Estilo in India. 2009 saw Maruti removing the ‘Zen’ badge and refreshing the car. However, the Estilo was always seen as an unnecessary product in Maruti’s portfolio. In the January-December 2013 period, Maruti sold an average of 754 Estilos per month." Like A Star, this was also discontinued in February 2014, to pave the way for Celerio.

India largest car manufacturer by value Maruti Suzuki discontinued SX4 in April 2014, so that their newly launched Ciaz can succeed in the Indian car market. Sales of SX4 continued to deteriorate, from 23% in FY12 and 63% in FY13 to 40% in FY14.

The country's largest car maker by value Maruti Suzuki's Swift sibling Ritz will make way for a premium hatchback YRA in the second half of 2015. From FY12- FY15, Ritz sales declined to 45%.

Earlier known as Tata sumo Grande, Tata Motors launched its Movus utility vehicle in India in May 2014 claiming it as a "big and reliable vehicle which will provide customers with best-in-class ride quality, making it a perfect partner for every journey". However, within one year the company is talking to discontinue the car owning to negative sales.As compared to 6200 units in FY14, Movus sold 3150 units in FY15.

The US car maker Ford Motor India's, the 'GO Fida' Classic is making way for the new Figo Aspire, which is expected to be launched in Early August. In its heyday, the Classic was a volume-spinning model for Ford in India thanks to its frugal 1.4-liter diesel engine.

First launched on 14 October 2009, Tata Manza is also known as The Club Class Sedan. In October 2012, Manza was re-launched as Manza Club Class. However, the sales figures did not match with what the company expected. In FY12 the car sold 20, 250 units, and in FY15 it experienced a sharp decline by selling 1300 units.

The highly successful Figo hatchback will be replaced by the new KA based on B562 platform as an all new Figo in the coming 3-4 months. Just like Classic, Figo earned Ford a lot because of its 1.4-liter diesel engine.
