Check out Tata Motors' new hatchback - Tiago

Tata Motors hatchbacks, right from the emergence of Indica, have sported a unique design.

However, with only minor changes over the years, the design has fallen into the 'outdated' zone.

That very well could change with Tata Motor's upcoming hatchback Tiago. The complete look revealed by the automaker is promising.
The Tiago -a compact hatchback that will compete with Maruti Suzuki's Wagon R and Celerio, and Hyundai's Grand i10 in a segment that sells 40,000 to 45,000 cars a month -is the first all-new model from Tata Motors since the Nano.

The company unveiled the car to the media in December first week.

It is expected to be priced between Rs 3.59 lakh - Rs 5.59 lakh, and is aimed at first-time car buyers.
Tiago will come in two variants - REVOTRON 1.2L petrol engine (3 cylinder, MPFi with MULTI DRIVE, and REVOTORQ 1.05L diesel engine (3 cylinder, CRAIL with MULTI DRIVE).

The petrol engine will have maximum power at 85 PS @ 6000 RPM, and torque at 114 Nm @ 3500 RPM.

While the diesel one will give maximum power of 70 PS @ 4000 RPM, and torque at 140 Nm @ 1800-3000 RPM.
This Construction Hatchback, 5 Door, Monocoque measures 3746mm in length, 1647 mm in width and 1535 mm in overall height.

It has a ground clearance of 170 mm with 14" (unladen), with a fuel tank capacity of 35 litres.

It features 14" alloy wheels.
It has 3-point front seat belt, 3-point rear outer seat belt, and center lap belt. It also features driver and front passenger airbags.

Tata Tiago comes equipped with central locking (with remote) system, speed sensing auto door lock, clutch lock, inside rear view day and night mirror, and immobilizer.

For driver assistance, it has remote key operated head-lamps, fog lamps, turning indicators on ORVM, and rear defogger.

4. User configurable vehicle settings provide personal touch
It has designed to provide 22 utility spaces and a boot space of 240 litres which has a separate partition for the tool kit and shopping bag hooks with weight markings.
The look indicates there are quite a few contemporary touches to the overall design, and yet manage to hold on to the classic looks, which point to the family Tiago belongs to.
We saw the smiling face on a Tata car first time on the Nano, and since then it has been a distinctive factor for Tata's cars.

The gene is passed on to Tiago as well, albeit with notable changes, especially the lower lip of the grill that seems it is merging in to the headlight.
Tata Motors has said that Tiago is built on a completely new Platform, 'XO' and will be manufactured at Tata's plant in Sanand.

Global design inputs from Pune, UK and Italy studios have contributed to the design language.
The car's name has been inspired by its zippy drive experience, to present an abstracted form for Zippy Car.

Tiago is the third product under Tata Motor's HorizonNext initiative after Tata Zest and Tata Bolt.
This was the sketch of the car, earlier called Kite, which the company released.

Later on the car, with its original name Zica, was teased in a TVC featuring Lionel Messi - Tata Motors' global brand ambassador.

However, owing to outbreak of Zica virus, the name was changed again to Tiago
Tata Tiago will replace Indica eV2 in the Indian market.

In future, Tata Motors is also expected to launch a compact sedan based on Tiago.
