Maruti Suzuki S Cross- Where it fits in comparison to its rivals

Maruti Suzuki has re-entered the premium segment by launching much awaited crossover S-Cross on August 5. S-cross will be the first vehicle to be sold exclusively through Maruti's new dealership chain Nexa.

The car comes with two diesel engine options, DDiS 200 and DDiS 320. The 1.3 litre DDiS 200 makes 90PS power and 200 Nm of torque whereas the 1.6 litre DDiS 320 delivers 120PS and a torque of 320 Nm.
While the 1.3 litre claims a fuel efficiency of 23.65 kmpl, the 1.6 litre engine gives 22.07 kmpl.
S Cross will be available in four variants - DDiS 200 – SIGMA (Rs 8.34 lakh), DELTA (Rs 9.15 lakh), ZETA (Rs 9.99 lakh), and Alpha (Rs 10.75 lakh).

Interestingly, the S-cross will only be available with a diesel engine and petrol variant not expected anytime soon.

It has features like cruise control, rain-sensing auto wiper, all wheel disc brakes, auto dimming IRVM, HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlamps with auto light-on function and Smartplay infotainment system with reverse parking camera. Addressing the safety issue, Maruti has equipped even the base variant with dual front airbags and ABS.
S Cross has two position seatback adjustment in the rear seat. No matter what the occasion is, its 60:40 split seat, hand luggage board and a large boot opening guarantees a cargo area that suits every need.
S Cross will be available in in four variants namely Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha. The Alpha trim for DDiS 200 goes up to Rs 10.75 lakh. Although the 1.6 litre variant will be made available only in Delta, Zeta, Alpha. The 1.6 litre engine price starts at Rs 11.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 13.74 lakh.

Creta will come in six variants namely Base in petrol and diesel, S (petrol, diesel), S+, Sx (diesel), SX+ and SX(o)(diesel). It is priced between Rs 9.46 lakh - Rs 13.60 lakh.
Hyundai has announced that Creta will be available in both petrol and diesel versions. It will have a 1.6 Gamma Dual VTVT petrol engine which will produce 123 bhp. 1.6 CRDi Diesel engine offers 128 bhp. The big advantage, that Hyundai will be banking on for results, is the automatic transmission it offers in the diesel variant. This is the first time in this segment that a diesel is coming with automatic transmission.
Renault has priced Duster between Rs 8 - 13.5 lakh. S Cross has been priced comparatively higher than most of its rivals.
The Duster comes equipped with a 1.6 litre petrol and a 1.5 litre diesel, producing 102 PS and 85 PS of power respectively. The biggest disadvantage S Cross going to have, in comparison to all its rivals, is that it is available only in diesel engine.
EcoSport models – 1.5L Petrol Ambiente MT (Rs 6.75 lakh), 1.5L Petrol Trend MT (Rs 7.70 lakh), 1.5L Petrol Titanium MT (Rs 8.70 lakh), 1.5L Petrol Titanium AT (Rs 9.72 lakh), 1.0L Petrol EcoBoost Titanium MT (Rs 9.14 lakh), 1.0L Petrol EcoBoost Titanium (O) MT (Rs 9.70 lakh), 1,5L Diesel Ambiente MT (Rs 7.88 lakh), 1.5L Diesel Trend MT (Rs 8.60 lakh), 1.5L Diesel Titanium MT (Rs 9.60 lakh), and 1.5L Diesel Titanium (O) MT (Rs 10.20 lakh).
Ford EcoSport comes up with 1 litre EcoBoost engine which has been doing quite well. It has 2 petrol and 1 diesel engine options. It sports 1.5 litre petrol making 112 PS of power, 1 litre petrol EcoBoost engine generating 125 PS power and 1.5 litre diesel with 91 PS of power.
