Narendra Modi and Angela Merkel visit Bosch facility in Bengaluru: In images

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited Robert Bosch Engineering & Innovation Centre, Bengaluru, on October 6, for a firsthand view of its operations in India. Merkel is on a three-day official visit to India since Sunday.
In these centres, research is done on innovative projects and skill development is imparted to Bosch employees.

'Our commitment to developing talent and the competence of our local engineers are part of our success story in India," said Peter Tyroller, member of the Bosch board of management responsible for Asia Pacific.
Bosch’s largest development center outside Germany is located in Bangalore and Coimbatore in southern India, and has over 12,000 research and development associates. One of the center’s areas of focus is on developing solutions for connected industry. Since 2014, the development center in Bangalore has also been focusing on big data analytics.
Merkel said "India is a great place for innovation. And Bengaluru is the Silicon Valley of Asia".
In a move to strengthen its presence in India, Bosch has committed to invest another Rs 650 crore, a day after Merkel and Modi signed a number of MoUs to bolster ties between the two countries.
Earlier, Bosch had invested around Rs 340 crore in its new manufacturing facility at Bidadi.
Modi and Merkel viewed powerpoint presentation on Bosch operations in India.
"Never before India was so well prepared to absorb talent, technology and investment from outside", said PM Modi.
Some of Bosch's application examples are “e-call modeling” and compact retina camera. The former estimates the probability of injury severity based on real-time vehicle, accident, and environment information. The latter's special software can detect medical conditions such as cataracts at an early stage.
"Lion is the unique symbol of Indo-German friendship", said the German Chancellor.
Both the leaders interacted with executives of German firms operating in India, and exchanged views on how to help the government boost its 'Make in India' and 'Digitise India' initiatives for creating jobs and promote exports.
