In pics: New Generation Maruti Suzuki Swift

India bound next generation Maruti Suzuki Swift has been unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Over 5.4 million units of Suzuki Swift has been sold globally making the car Suzuki’s flagship model globally.

In India, Over 1.5 million units of Maruti Suzuki Swift have been sold since 2005.
New generation Maruti Suzuki Swift will be a full model change; its development was focused on achieving innovative styling and uplifting driving performance through the adoption of extremely light and rigid new-generation platform “HEARTECT”. Suzuki claims the new platform will help the car to be more nimble and agile driving performance.
Next gen Maruti Suzuki Swift has been developed with an investment of about Rs 1000 crore, internally codenamed YSD , the new platform is different from architecture of Baleno and Ignis.
The weight of new generation Maruti Suzuki Swift is 840kg. The car is 10mm shorter than the current Swift, and its wheelbase is 20mm longer.
New gen Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchbacks's height is 15mm lower and vehicle width is 40mm wider, accentuating the new Swift's low and wide form.
Globally the car will be available with 1.0 BoosterJet petrol engine, 1.2 Dualjet petrol engine and the SHVS mild hybrid engine which gets an electric motor, and a 12-volt lithium-ion battery. Suzuki claims an average 5% improvement in fuel economy overall.

Maruti Suzuki Swift in India will be powered by 1.2L petrol engine and 1.3L multijet diesel engine and will be offered with an option of automatic and manual gearbox.
Suzuki Swift has been developed with an investment of about Rs 1000 crore, internally codenamed YSD is built on an all new platform called HEARTECT, which is different from architecture of Baleno and Ignis.
The new Swift rests on a new-generation platform "HEARTECT" that delivers enhanced fundamental vehicle performance due to being light and highly rigid. A comprehensive overhaul of the underbody's structure and component layout resulted in the adoption of a highly rigid frame that enhances collision safety and has a continuous, smooth and curving form that better helps disperse energy claims the company.
The new platform has helped the company to weight the next gen Swift at 840kg which will also contribute to lower fuel consumption. Also, optimising the underbody together with the components that are attached to it as a unified whole (rather than focusing on partial optimisation of individual components) has reduced noise and vibration and improved comfort as per Suzuki.
The European specification of the all-new Swift is produced at Suzuki’s Sagara Plant in Japan and the sales are set to start in April 2017. However, Maruti Suzuki India will be launching the car in India only in 2018.
India bound Swift also gets major interior upgrades and the 400 mm wider stance will make the car spacious.
Next generation Maruti Suzuki Swift will also feature the 7-inch infotainment system which will support Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. We have already seen the say system on Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
2018 will be an important year for Maruti Suzuki as its flagship model Swift will be reintroduced in a new avatar. The car will also be exported to the company's export markets from India.
