On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, take a look at a car that is differently abled

A major requirement of the people with special needs, is the ability to be able to move around independently. This unique car here is a step towards that goal . Built by KLD Energy technologies, 'Kenguru' was recently displayed at Rehacare 2015 trade fair, a event for those people who have special needs, which was held at Dusseldorf Exhibition Centre in Germany.
Kenguru is one of the first fully-electric Wheelchair-assisted Vehicle in the world. Powered by a 6kWh/48V Lithium ion battery, it has a range of 40km on full charge.

Kenguru has an interesting design with a muscular body, which gives it a compact SUVish stance.
Here, a visitor to the trade fair learns about the vehicle and its unique abilities.

Kenguru boasts of a aluminum space frame chassis with MacPherson front suspension and independent by rocking arms with springs and shock absorbers at the rear
A front-wheel drive, the car can hit a maximum speed of 40 kmph. And it can do that in 5 seconds flat. The company claims it produces 540Nm torque at stall.
The entry in to the car is from the rear. The boot door opens up and the ramp come down.
The wheelchair can be taken into the car, right till the steering wheel. There are no separate seats inside and one can drive the car sitting on the wheelchair itself.
The interiors might look plain, but it comes with all the bells and whistles of a regular car.

Kenguru gets a Bluetooth enabled sound system, handsfree calling, power assisted steering, electric power braking, rear view camera, reverse parking sensor, heated rear window.
The wheelchair can be docked on to the floor which prevents it from any unwanted movements while driving
The car is schedule to be launched in Europe in 2016 and will begin with production of 1000 units in the first year.

Though there is no information about it coming to India, we hope it does make it here as it will be a welcome solution.
The first rendition came a few years back from the Austin, Texas-based Kenguru in 2012. Unlike other cars which are built normally and then modified to suit te needs of wheelchair users, this car has been designed and built from ground-up keeping in mind this community.
Kenguru was acquired by KLD Energy Technologies in September 2015.
