Renault Kwid - Take a Walkaround this unique looking hatchback

Renault Kwid is a hatchback that hopes to cash in on the growing interest in compact SUV in India. With a tall posture and design cues that mirror an SUV from certain angles, Kwid could ruffle some feathers in the segment.
Renault has made sure that it gets a strong road presence with muscular shoulder lines and flared fenders. It is also reported that the car has a ground clearance of 180mm, which is higher than its competitors.
The hatchback is based on Renualt-Nissan's CMF-A platform. It will be the first car to use this platform and is expected to be used in other Renualt-Nissan cars.
The car, developed at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore, is expected to be launched during the festive season between September and November.
The rear view mirror looks straight out of a car from the 1990s. At a time, when event the entry level cars have internally adjustable ORVMs, this is a surprise from Renault.

Kwid will reportedly have a three-cylinder 800cc engine which has been developed under Renault-Nissan alliance. Nissan is also planning to launch a compact hatchback under the Datsun brand which would share the engine
Gone are the days when poor quality in entry level cars was accepted by consumers. Today's discerning buyers expect good quality right from the most basic variant.
The car, with 98 percent local content, will be the most localised product of Renault in India. With this new product, the carmaker hopes to cover 80 percent of the Indian market, up from 50 percent currently.
It will also be the first car in its segment to have a touch screen infotainment. Time will tell if this could turn out to be a USP for the car.
With features like all-digital meters, the car is expected to appeal to the young buyers as well.
Kwid has some smart storage spaces on the dashbaord. A lot of the designing has been done in India. Carlos Ghosn,CEO of Renault Motors, had said that, "If this car is a success, it will be the best tribute to how much Indian engineering can support global engineering into doing things which were considered impossible in the beginning."
With just an 800cc engine, the car needs linear distribution of power to be a counted as a decent performer. For this , Renault has given the car a 5-forward speed trasmission.
Kwid has an overall length of 3.68 meters and an overall width of 1.58 meters. The multi-hued seats give it a lively cabin
Kwid's back seat has decent leg room and is similar to cars in this segment. The height of the car also translates into good headroom for rear passengers
The Renault Kwid, which, illustrates the ‘Explore’ petal of Renault’s design strategy, will be priced between Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.
