The legendary 'Amby' was in production between 1958 to 2014. Mostly preferred by government officials and later taxi owners, the Ambassador was based on the Morris Oxford series III model, first made by Morris Motors Limited.
The first small hatchback of India that change the way middle class commuted. Launched first in 1983, the car went through various facelift until it was discontinued in 2014 due to emission norms.
The Hindustan Contessa was a model of car which was manufactured in 1984 to 2002. The first luxury sedan was based on the Vauxhall VX Series. It was one of the favorite cars of the bollywood actors and villains.
The only competitor to Ambassador and was mostly preferred by the bollywood actors at its peak time. The car was produced from 1973 to 1998 in India
The Chevrolet Impala is a full-size sedan manufactured by General Motors for model years 1958 to 1985.
Maruti Suzuki 1000 was produced in India between October 1990 and 2000. With a large waiting list for all Maruti cars, a computerised lottery was used to decide who got a chance to buy a Maruti 1000. Maruti Suzuki 1000 sold at Rs. 381,000.
In 1994 an upgraded version of this car, with 1.3-liter engine, was released with new exteriors and the new badge Maruti Esteem.
Maruti Suzuki Zen was produced between 1993-2006. The 5-door hatcback was one best selling cars of India. Famous for the zero maintenance tag and zero cabin noise at the time. Later the badge Zen was given the new car Estilo.
Hyundai with its entry to the India car market launched Santro. The first tall boy hatchback car was runaway success. The car was later discontinued in 2014. It further anticipated that the car make its entry back in 2018
India's largest utility vehicle manufacturer made its mark with Jeep now known as Thar. The SUV was manufactured under licence of the Willys Jeep.
Gypsy was first manufactured in December 1985. it is a four-wheel-drive vehicle based on the long wheelbase Suzuki Jimny SJ40/410 series. It was most preferred vehicle of the Indian Army.
