Round up: Top Entries and Exits in CY2017

PB Balaji joins Tata Motors as new Chief Financial Officer and Key Managerial Personnel. Balaji replaced CR Ramakrishnan, who retired on 30 September and have already served several extensions.

Stephan Winkelmann joins Bugatti Automobiles as the new President from 1 January 2018. He takes over from Wolfgang Durheimer, who retired at his own request at the end of 2017.

Ashok Leyland, flagship of the Hinduja Group, appointed Sanjay Saraswat as the Senior Vice President & Head of Global Buses. Saraswat joins Ashok Leyland with close to 30 years of experience spanning across Manufacturing, Sales, Service, Network Development and Marketing.

The luxury arm of Volkswagen Group Bentley appointed Adrian Hallmark as the new Chairman and CEO. Hallmark’s appointment marks one of four senior leadership changes at Bentley Motors with new Board Members for Engineering; Sales and Marketing; and People, Digitalisation and IT.

The Indian subsidiary of Japanese carmaker Nissan appointed Hardeep Singh Brar as Director – Sales and Network, Nissan Motor India. Brar is responsible for accelerating the sales of both Nissan and Datsun products.

Bharatendu Kapoor ended his 33-year-long stint with Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) just before 5 years of his retirement. Kapoor joins Tractors and Farm Equipment (TAFE) as president - Sales & Marketing, in December, and is directly reporting to Mallika Srinivasan, chairman and chief executive officer, TAFE.

The wholly-owned arm of Hyundai Motor Co, Kia Motors Co, appointed Manohar Bhat as head - Sales & Marketing for its India operations. An IIM Bangalore alumnus, Bhat joins Kia Motors from Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, where he was serving as president.

After a short stint of less than two years with the local unit of the Japanese carmaker Nissan India, Satinder Singh Bajwa resigned, sources informed ETAuto. He was working as director, Sales, Network and Customer Relations at Nissan India. Bajwa has been instrumental in establishing sales for Nissan and Datsun India.

Swedish luxury car maker Volvo Cars appointed Charles Frump as the new Managing Director of Indian operations.

Indian automobile manufacturer Tata Motors announced the appointment of Girish Wagh as the ‘Head of Commercial Vehicle Business Unit’ and a member of the Executive Committee (ExCom). The announcement comes a week after Ravindra Pisharody, the executive director-in-charge of the flagging commercial vehicle business resigned from the company.

Vinod Sahay, a former Tata Motors executive, will now lead Mahindra Truck and Bus Division as its CEO as the group initiates a major reshuffle of its senior executives that will take immediate effect.

The largest Chinese carmaker SAIC Motor Corporation Limited on Wednesday confirmed its plan to enter the Indian automobile market with the appointment of top-level executives. Confirming the ETAuto report, the first Chinese automaker to come to India SAIC has appointed Rajeev Chaba as the President & Managing Director and P Balendran as Executive Director of its Indian subsidiary MG Motor India.

Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler startup Ather Energy, in which Hero MotoCorp is an investor, today announced the appointment of Venkatesh Padmanabhan as its Chief Operating Officer.

Sanjay Bandopadhyay the CEO and project director of National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP) has completed his tenure and will leave for his parent IAS cadre of Madhya Pradesh in the first week of June. Thereafter he will be given his new posting.

American carmaker Ford has elevated Anurag Mehrotra, Executive Director, Marketing, Sales & Service as Managing Director for its Indian subsidiary, a source close to the development told ETAuto.

Sudhir Rao, the managing director of Skoda Auto India has resigned from the company. Rao will serve his term until 30th June and the Czech car maker, a subsidiary of Volkswagen may fill the vacancy created by his exit with another Indian executive.

Peyman Kargar, currently Senior Vice President Management Committee Chairman of
Africa, Middle East and India region (AMI) at Nissan Motor Corp takes over as interim president of Nissan India Operations.

Mahindra & Mahindra has announced the consolidation of its sales and marketing functions and has re-designated Veejay Ram Nakra as Senior Vice President – Sales and Marketing, Automotive Division, with effect from May 1, 2017, informed the company in a statement.

Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) has announced Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing has been elevated as Director-Sales & Marketing division. The automaker also said that Ganesh Mani S, Vice President-Production division has been promoted as Senior Vice President - Production
Vikas Jain, Senior General Manager, HMIL – Sales division has been elevated as Assistant Vice President – Sales. The promotions are effective April 1, 2017.

Two wheeler manufacturer Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has appointed Minoru Kato as new President & CEO, effective April 1, 2017, informed the company in an official statement released on Monday.

Automotive Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ATMA), the apex body of the Indian tyre industry, has elected Satish Sharma, President, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa (APMEA), Apollo Tyres as its next Chairman.

Ashwani Gupta, a veteran Renault-Nissan executive, is slated to take over as the head of Renault-Nissan light commercial vehicle alliance unit, and the company is expected to make an announcement to this effect shortly.
Gupta, in his new role, will be reporting directly to Carlos Ghosn, the CEO of Renault-Nissan.

Dharmesh Arora has been appointed as the Managing Director of FAG Bearings India effective March 6, 2017, informed the automotive components manufacturer in a media release. Arora is currently the President & CEO of the Schaeffler Group in India (parent company of FAG Bearings India), a position that he will continue to hold.
He will also continue to be the Managing Director of INA Bearings India, another group company of Schaeffler in India.

Nissan chief executive Carlos Ghosn said on Thursday he will quit the post to focus on overhauling scandal-hit Mitsubishi Motors, but will stay on as chairman at the Japanese automaker he was credited with saving.
Ghosn, 62, who also heads up French automaker Renault, will hand over the reins to Nissan veteran Hiroto Saikawa in April

Daimler's trucks chief Wolfgang Bernhard, once seen as a candidate to succeed Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche, has stepped down a year before his contract was due to run out, the German carmaker said on Friday.
Bernhard's restructuring efforts have angered powerful labour leaders, who hampered his progress at Daimler until he was too old to be considered for the top job, according to sources familiar with the matter.
