ZF technologies which are going to revolutionise auto industry

German car parts maker ZF Friedrichshafen AG has worked out exemplary solutions for urban individual transport in the compact and subcompact segments. Let’s have a look at some of these specific solutions which will create near- and long- term sustainable value in the future.

Parking made easy with ZF Smart Parking Assist, which provides assistance when determining suitable parking spaces, park fully automatically and thus it efficiently utilises the scarce parking space in large cities. The driver can even trigger this process from outside the vehicle using a smart device. This system differs primarily from today's standard parking aids through the way in which all the systems interact seamlessly.

Imagine driving just as safely and efficiently on unfamiliar roads as on your daily commute home. It might be possible in the future with ZF's cloud-based drive strategy. If the driver corners too quickly, when activated, PreVision Cloud Assist reduces the torque, thus slowing the speed without using mechanical brakes. Unlike a GPS-controlled advanced driver assistance system, PreVision Cloud Assist not only takes into account topographical data, but also its analysis experiences from previous drives along the same route.

The driver is kept informed at all times about the intervention of PreVision Cloud Assist: The multifunction steering wheel features an OLED. “With the hands-on detection, we are creating functions which reduce the driver's workload – such as in urban traffic, which is characterized by strenuous stop-and-go phases during rush-hour periods,” explains Alois Seewald, Technical Director of Integrated Active & Passive Safety Technologies at ZF TRW.

ZF- TRW’s Highway Driving Assist enables automatic steering, braking and acceleration for speeds above 0 km/h. It combines adaptive cruise control and lane centering to maintain the lane and a set interval to target vehicles ahead. Its next stage will feature 360 degree sensor system with lateral capabilities.

AKC by ZF provides steering impulses from the rear for passenger cars by flexibly modifying the toe angle at the rear axle. It enhances safety as well as driving pleasure, and improves manoeuvring comfort.

ZF TRW has launched fusion systems integrating advanced camera and radar systems. “Fusing the data from camera and radar every 30-40 milliseconds helps to confirm when a situation warrants action from on-board systems such as rapid braking via the electronic stability control system for Automatic Emergency Braking.
