The fee increase is happening as the agreements between cab companies Ola, Uber and BluSmart and the Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIAL) are up for renewal. The airport operator is paid a certain fee on every ride, as per these contracts. This charge is then passed on by the cab aggregators to their passengers as airport pickup fee.

Long queues at petrol pumps in India as people rush to fill their tanks amid fears of a fuel shortage. The queues are a result of truck drivers protesting against the new penal law on hit-and-run accidents, which is part of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The law stipulates up to 10 years imprisonment or a fine of INR 7 lakh for drivers causing serious road accidents and fleeing the scene. Protests have erupted across the country, with private bus and truck drivers enforcing 'chakka jams'. Drivers and transporters are demanding the repeal of the law due to concerns of unjust punishments.

Record 7,155 two-wheelers registered this Dussehra

Two-wheeler registrations in Mumbai reached a new high of 7,155 during the week leading up to Dussehra, a 67% increase from last year. Car registrations, however, declined by 13% compared to last year but remained 46% higher than pre-Covid levels in 2019. Market watchers attribute the rise in two-wheeler registrations to people's preference for avoiding crowded public transport, especially for short journeys. Analysts suggest that slower car sales may be due to alternative transportation options and issues such as congestion and infrastructure projects. Activists warn about traffic snarls and road safety concerns as two-wheelers now make up nearly 60% of the city's total vehicular count.
