India's power consumption rises over 8 pc to 127.79 billion units in February

India's power consumption in February 2024 grew by over 8%, reaching 127.79 BU. The growth rate was slightly higher. Peak power demand met rose to 222 GW from 209.76 GW. Power consumption increased due to prolonged cold wave and use of heating equipment. Experts expect steady growth due to economic activities and early onset of summers in March.

Expect faster adoption of EVs in luxury car segment: Volvo

"The EV penetration in the overall passenger vehicle segment is nothing, about 2 per cent, while in the luxury segment it is 7 per cent. So, adoption of EVs in the luxury segment will be faster," Volvo Car India Managing Director Jyoti Malhotra said.

India allows foreign cargo flights from International airports for 3 years

India has decided to allow foreign airlines to operate non-scheduled cargo flights from all international airports in the country for three years, lifting restrictions imposed in 2020. The move follows lobbying by exporters who raised concerns about limited goods capacity due to Indian carriers not deploying enough aircraft to meet demand. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued a circular on February 12, stating that foreign and non-scheduled freighter charter service operations will be permitted at all international airports to facilitate air cargo movements.
