Volkswagen CrossPolo Review

The CrossPolo is yet another offering by the German auto giant Volkswagen. The automaker has offered additional plastic cladding and silver bits at an additional cost over the Polo TDi Highline, to make it the CrossPolo.

EXTERIOR
The front fascia of the CrossPolo features a single slat chrome radiator grille along with a chunkier new bumper, round fog lamps and a silver chin-line to differentiate it from the regular Polo. The additional cladding makes the CrossPolo 20mm longer and wider than the Polo. The side profile features silver ORVMs, along with 185/60 R15 tyres and 168mm of ground clearance. The rear of the CrossPolo gets an aluminum finished chin-guard and black claddings.

INTERIOR
Volkswagen has elegantly designed the CrossPolo, and has added a lot many features to it. The CrossPolo features ‘Livon’ titanium black upholstery. It has an all-black finish with scratch resistant plastic interiors. The seats are comfortable and there is adequate head/leg/shoulder room in both the rows. The auto giant has also installed a leather wrapped steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment and audio and telephony controls. Apart from all these, Volkswagen also offers lane change indicator with triple flash, speed sensing auto door locks and a multi-function display in the CrossPolo.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION, RIDE & HANDLING, BRAKING & SAFETY
The CrossPolo is offered in both petrol and diesel variants.
The CrossPolo diesel comes equipped with a 1.5L 4-cylinder in-line TDi diesel engine which churns out 90ps of maximum power and a peak torque of 230Nm, and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission gear-box. The mileage, as per ARAI norms, is 20.14kmpl.
The petrol variant is powered by a 1.2L MPI 3-cylinder engine which churns out 75Ps of power and a peak torque of 110Nm, and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The ARAI certified mileage is 16.47kmpl.
The ride and handling is smooth, as the CrossPolo is well-equipped with McPherson Strut with stabilizer bar in the front and semi-independent trailing arm suspension at the rear.
The CrossPolo follows the traditional braking system with front disc and rear drum brakes, which support ABS with EBD.
For comfort and convenience, Volkswagen has loaded the CrossPolo with features that include 2-DIN music system with USB/Aux-in/SD card support along with Bluetooth telephony, parking sensors, automatic climate control etc.
The safety features include dual front airbags, anti-pinch power windows, front and rear fog lamps, anti-glare adjustment function. It is also equipped with electronic engine immobilizer with floating code.

CONCLUSION
With the CrossPolo, Volkswagen is targeting the customers who are looking for a crossover hatchback. But the CrossPolo is just a beefier version of the regular Polo TDi Highline, which only makes it look tougher. The CrossPolo features the same engine as that in the regular Polo. But if you are looking for a crossover hatch, this is the perfect car to buy.
