Maruti Suzuki Omni Review
The Omni comes in 4 variants: a 5-seater commercial van, an 8-seater family car, a cargo van and even an Ambulance. This highly versatile vehicle was launched by Maruti Suzuki back in 1985, this car is serving people since, both with their household needs and business needs as well.
EXTERIOR
The Omni has a box-like design. The front fascia features a black bumper with turn indicators, two headlamps surrounded by a black border, and two horizontal lines striking through the Suzuki logo, which is embossed in the center.
The side profile of the car has horizontal lines and the doors slide-to-open, making it convenient for loading/unloading goods, etc. The rear of the car has a bumper similar to that in the front which is integrated with reverse lamps.
The Omni features 12-inch cross ply tyres and a ground clearance of 165mm.
INTERIOR
The Omni?s dash is quite simple and very basic. It features a glove-box, a tray for storage purposes, and some small storage spaces. It also has AC vents and a cup-holder on the extreme right.
Since, the Omni comes in 2 variants: a 5-seater and an 8-seater. For the 5-seater variant the car gets ample of boot space and one seat in the rear row, whereas for an 8-seater, there are two parallel rear rows facing each other but very little or almost no boot space.
ENGINE, PERFORMANCE, BRAKING & HANDLING
The Omni comes with 2 fuel options ? Petrol and LPG. The petrol variant is powered by a 800cc motor which produces a power of 35Ps and a peak torque of 59Nm, and comes mated to a 4-speed manual transmission gearbox. It features McPherson strut suspension at the front and leaf spring with shock absorbers at the rear.
SAFETY
Apart from the suspension, there are no safety features for the passengers commuting inside.
CONCLUSION
Although, the car does not come with any safety features, the 12-inch cross ply tyres do not have that good a grip on the road, and the car has simple interiors and exterior; but it does fall in an affordable price range, a great family car (8-seater), a cargo van and also an Ambulance. So, apart from the shortcomings, it is a perfectly affordable car to commute people or goods from point A to point B.
