The Thar by Mahindra & Mahindra is the reworked Jeep which was discontinued a while back. The Thar now features a more powerful engine and upgraded features.
EXTERIOR
The front fascia of the Thar features new bumpers, a large 7-slat radiator grille and new clear lens round headlamps. The side profile of the Thar features sturdy side panels and massive wheel arches. Overall the Thar retains the design cues from its predecessor albeit a few changes like the new front bumper, new side footsteps and a redesigned canopy tilting frontwards.
INTERIOR
The interiors of the Thar feature a dual tone dashboard, which is made up of fine quality plastics. The Thar features a three-pod backlit instrument cluster with shiny ringed chrome surrounds and new circular AC vents, along with cup holders, 12V charging socket, and more comfortable front seats with adequate leg/head/shoulder room.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION, RIDE & HANDLING, BRAKING & SAFETY
The Thar is powered by a 2.5L NEF CRDe 4-cylinder turbocharged intercooler unit which produces 107Ps of power and a peak torque of 247Nm. it comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The ride and handling is smooth, as the Thar is well-equipped with independent suspension with torsion bar and stabilizer bar in the front and semi-elliptical leaf spring suspension with shock absorbers at the rear.
For braking, Mahindra has equipped the Thar with disc brakes at both front & rear.
For comfort and convenience, the Thar features AC with heater, wider front seats, door trims with arm rests, independent front suspension, windshield demister, floor console with cup holders, lockable glove box, 3-pod instrument cluster, side-facing foldable rear seats, and a 12V power socket.
The safety features include a digital immobilizer, auto-locking hubs and a mechanically lockable rear differential.
CONCLUSION
The Thar is the perfect proposition from Mahindra & Mahindra, mainly for the off-roaders and Jeep fans. It is an affordable SUV with a lot of customization options.
